About Invercargill Musical Theatre …… The Invercargill Operatic Society was reformed in 1953 after going into recess in 1939. In 1993 the name was changed to Invercargill Musical Theatre. The Company has staged most of the major shows written including Grease (attendance 18,000+); Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (16,000+); My Fair Lady and Les Miserables (both 18,000+). Invercargill Musical Theatre has been part of the consortium which has built Les Miserables (twice) and West Side Story. Financial support from the Invercargill Licensing Trust has kept Invercargill Musical Theatre going.
