Soor -
30th September 1745
This scenario was developed by Fabrizio
Davì.
Historical Introduction:
The Prussian summer campaign which followed their victory at
Hoenfriedberg was made unfruitful by the Austrian light troops mastery
in the "kleine krieg". In late September Frederick moved his army
in a camp a few miles from the Bohemian town of Soor before returning
to Silesia and winter quarters: his march was shadowed by the Austrian
army of Prince Charles, which has received
strict instructions from Vienna to resume offensive operations. The
Prussian
camp was laid out without occupying the high ground on their right
which
commanded their intended line of march back to Silesia and such a
disposition
prompted Prince Charles to surprise the Prussians by means of a night
march
intended to seize the heights before daybreak. However poor staff work
and
an heavy mist prevented the Austrians to attach the Prussian camp after
the
seizure of Graner Koppe. At 5.00 warnings of enemy presence reached
Frederick:
a call to arms was ordered and within a short span of time the army was
ready
to attack the Austrian-occupied heights on their right, refusing the
centre
and left wing. When the mist burnt away at 8.00 it revealed to the
Austrians
a Prussian army draw up for a battle before them, any element of
surprise
being lost.
Victory Conditions:
The battle starts at 8,00 with the Prussian moving first and
ends as soon as a player reaches 6 victory points (VP). Victory points
are awarded for each enemy division exhausted (1 VP), for each enemy
division collapsed (2 VP) and for the control of Graner Koppe (2 VP).
Orders of Battle:
Prussian Army: 16,700 infantry, 5,800 cavalry.

Notes:
1. All infantry regiments have battalion guns.
2. No infantry regiments have grenadiers present except where
stated
3. I choose to not represent Nadasti’s light troops, since their main
achievement during the battle was to plunder the prussian camp
(out of map) kidnapping Biche, Frederick’s favourite whippet. However,
if you like the gender, they can be represented by two HR (11 and
24)
and by 6 croats skirmishers. The Prussian troops defending the camp
under
the command of GM von Schlichting were: HR 4 Natzmer, GB 16/GI Kleist
"von
Schwerin", GB 5/36 Jeetze, GB 11/14 Trenck, GB 31/40 Lindstedt, GB 8/30
Schoning.
4. The Erbprinz Leopold Maximilian Von Anhalt-Dessau was the son of the
"Old-Dessauer".
5. The austrian regiments with lower morale were badly mauled at
Hoenfriedberg,
as well as the Saxon units.
Initial
deployment and special rules
a-Initial deployment; Austrians: Left wing and Aremberg's cavalry in
squares A1 with grenadiers, artillery and at least 3 infantry regiments

the
squares marked P.
b-Special rule: the austrian troops deployed in square A3 can't move
unless prussian troops come within 6" of them or the Austrian player
