First Manassas - The Campaign Game
he following is a revised Order of Battle for 1st Bull Run is based about the "campaign game" as described in the Volley & Bayonet rules book. The order of battle has been supplied by Greg Novak. Description: I have added an additional commander in Holmes as he was supposed to command (on paper at least) the right wing of the Army of the Potomac. The Confederate Artillery and most of the Union Artillery has been made into battalion guns. The few Union guns not serving as BG are rifled weapons with regular Army crews - they are not PT. There is a lot more cavalry if you want - thought much of it is optional - use as regimental stands - ie two die for melee. Stuarts cavalry only is considered as self ordering. This is a much more interesting scenario with the change in the short range for artillery - the scenario now gives the Union three batteries of artillery - but they have a single die for firepower and when they are in short range of the rebels, the guns are within small arms range of the infantry - yes they can cause morale checks - yes they can get shot down. And with 1 die for a 5, 6, vs 2 to 5 dice for a 6 - not good odds. I think it would be great fun to give this game to a group of Napoleonic gamers and watch what happens. All Confederate troops moving to the front in march order do not have to be in command. Order of Battle: Beauregard had organized the Confederate forces into five "division" prior to the start of the battle - but never got around to assigning commanders to those formations. However he assigned Brig. Gen. T.H. Holmes as the commander of the Confederate right - the 1st and 2nd "Divisions" so I have placed those commands under him and made Holmes a DC Historically Holmes "Brigade", Jones' Brigade and Longstreet's Brigade did not see action in the battle: Jackson's Brigade is not poorly trained (PT) - however it's morale has been reduced to 5 - the loss of the PT rating helps make up for it.
