Gettysburg Errata
The following questions, and answers supplied by Greg Novak, relate to
the V&B American Civil War Source Book published by GDW.
| Q. Where is "Fairfield Road"? |
A. Fairfield road runs west from Gettysburg off the
middle edge of the map - it is the road south of Chambersburg Pike. It is marked on the
map as Hagerstown Road and they are one and the same.
| Q. Where is "Middletown Road"? |
A. This is the road to the north of Chambersburg Pike,
and is marked on the map as Mummasberg Road.
| Q. Are any of the cavlary or infantry armed with
special weapons? Did I miss something in the book which refers to those that are? I seem
to recall reading that at least Buford's lot have 7 shot Spencer carbines. Any thoughts? |
A. Bufords Cavalry was armed with breechloaders at this
battle - they did not get their repeaters to the following year - that story seems to have
arisen due to the resistance that they gave Heth - which on the basis of the casualties
taken by Buford was very minor indeed. Almost all of the Union Cavalry is carrying breech
loading weapons at this time - so the sharpshooter rating gives them a better firepower
rating.
| Q. What woods should be rated dense at Gettysburg? |
A. Culps Hill needs to be dense - as does Big Round Top
and the area south and west of there. All other woods are open. The 20th Maine line is set
up on the edge of the dense woods / open woods. The problems with guns is more with the
height than the woods at the time.
| Q. In VB&G towns can be rated as stone or Wooden,
how should Gettysburg be rated? |
A. Towns should be wooden.
| Q. At 11AM on July 1, should the Union reinforcement
reference to [3rd Div XI Corps] actually read [1st Div XI Corps] at Taneytown Road? |
A. The following is a revised timeline for
