As co-founder of the New Zealand Kitefliers Association and editor of its journal, I was often asked for information on Maori kites.
Most requests were answered from reference material I had gathered to satisfy my own curiosity. An upsurge of interest in international kiting history
together with heightened awareness of the material culture of the Maori, identified a need for an in-depth resource on Maori kites.

Kite-flying is growing in popularity and interest in Maori crafts is high; painters and sculptors are increasingly using kite imagery in their work. This is a book for anyone interested in Maori heritage and contemporary arts - kite-makers, kite-flyers, teachers, artists and the general public.
