In 1997 The Lord of the Rings was voted book of the century and now it is being made into a film. They are filming it in New Zealand and are filming the big battle, which takes place at the end at Mount Ruapehu. They are also filming some castle scenes at Haywards Hill in Wellington.

The book consists of three parts,

1. The fellowship of the ring,
2. The two Towers,
3. The return of the king,

Both books are written by J.R.R. Tolkien who some of you may have heard of.

The story follows on from The Hobbit where Bilbo Baggins (a hobbit) finds a magic ring, which can make you invisible when you wear it.

Frodo Baggins inherits the ring and has to make a long and dangerous journey to destroy the ring to stop the dark lord using it to gain control of the world.
