These photographs were taken a few years back on a trip to White Island, a marine volcano that lies off the coast of Whakatane at the northern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. White Island is continuously active and I found my visit there fascinating.

I really enjoyed my visit toWhite Island on a tour with PeeJay Charters from Whakatane.
You can see their informative website at http://www.whiteisland.co.nz

(This is on the "Volcano World" site, an excellent reference site for information about many volcanoes in the world.)

For more volcanic activity, see these photos taken during the 1996 Ruapehu eruption.
Note: These photographs were taken several years ago, and there have been major changes at White Island since then. The crater lake level has risen. I have left these photos up, but really it is time I took another visit over there ;-)
You can read more about changes in the crater lake level here!
