Martin RIORDAN and
Margaret MALONE
Martin Riordan (b Charing Cross, NZ) and Margaret Malone (b Ireland)
married in 1908 and settled on a farm in Hurford Road, Omata. My
father, James Kevin Riordan, was the sixth of their seven children.
Martin died in 1921, and Margaret raised her family as a widow in
South Road, New Plymouth.
James LALOR &
Rose PAYN
James Lalor and Rose Payn were both born on the West Coast of New
Zealand, and married in South Beach in 1915. My mother, Katherine
Hilda Lalor, was the third of their nine children. They lived in
Greenstone Road, Kumara, in a home until recently still lived in
by an uncle.
Patrick
RIORDAN
Patrick Riordan was born in Curraheen, Co Limerick, Ireland, c1848,
to John Riordan and Bridget Quane. He came to New Zealand around
1868, and by the 1880s was farming at Charing Cross near Darfield.
His brother John also came to New Zealand. More

Mary BURKE
Mary Burke was born in 21 Aug 1862 to Martin Burke and Ann Philp,
at Inchture, Perth, Scotland. The family arrived in Lyttleton on
the "Mermaid" in February 1864. Mary had a sister, Annie,
and a brother, Thomas, born in New Zealand. More

Patrick and Mary married in Lincoln in 1882, and had
six children: John, Martin, Patrick Joseph, James, Bridget and
Annie.
Jeremiah
MALONE and Margaret RIORDAN
Jeremiah Malone and Margaret RIORDAN were the parents of Margaret
MALONE, who was born in Ballinadrideen, Ballyhea Parish, near Charleville,
close to the border of Cork and Limerick. They had another daughter,
Bridget, who also emigrated to New Zealand.
Recently I was contacted by a Brennan second cousin who found out
all the children in this family. They were: Bridget (b1868); John(b1869);
Maurice (b 1871); Mary (b 1874); Margaret
(b 1876); Patrick (b 1877);
Nano (b 1879); and Jeremiah (b 1882).
James LALOR
James Lalor was born in Co.Kilkenny c 1840, to John and Mary Lalor.
He seems to have reached New Zealand c 1866, and became a goldminer.
Catherine ROWLAND
Catherine Rowland was born 26 August 1845 in Heidelberg, Melbourne,
to Christopher Rowland (who was probably a convict from Cork) and
Margaret Arbuckle. Her younger sister Margaret also later came to
New Zealand.
James and Catherine married in 1871 in the Catholic Chapel in Greymouth,
and had six children: Margaret Jane, Mary, Robert, James, John and
Thomas.
Francis Davis PAYN
Francis Davis Payn was born 1854 in "Les Ruettes", St
Martin's parish, Jersey, Channel Islands. He was the son of Thomas
Payn and Elizabeth Mourant. He arrived in Canterbury in 1874 on
the "Dilharee" with Philip Payn, and was one of three
"Larrikins" who discovered the Larrikins lead in 1878
in Kumara.
Johanna SCETTRINI
Johanna Scettrini was born in Sandhurst (Bendigo) in 1865, the eldest
daughter of Giuseppe Scettrini (from Corippo, Ticino, Switzerland)
and Catherine Heneberry (from Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary, Ireland.)
The family moved to the West Coast and after living in Waimea (Goldsborough)
for a time, settled in Kumara. Johanna and Frank were married in
1886 in Kumara. Their children were Thomas, Kate, Elizabeth, MaryAnn,
John (Jack), Hilda, Joseph, Matilda, Albert and Frank.
