Q: Where did you come up with the idea for Duckie?

A: I was on holiday in Mexico on one of the many long bus rides. I spent alot of that time doodling and drawing. I came up with a little duck and a little rat. I thought the duck was pretty cute. Then when I got back from holiday I remembered him and his cute little beret and decided to draw him as a unofficial little mascot for the pavement art workshops I was doing for a festival at the time. I then thought what if he could talk but knew that ducks shouldn't be able to talk. And thus the first Duckie the Self-Aware Duck strip was created.

Q:And Rock?

A: I thought Duckie needed someone to talk to since the other ducks were only capable of blank stares. Duckie is kind, caring, righteous, intelligent but innocent, emotional and paranoid. Rock is old, bitter, cranky, vindictive and callous but also helpless. I think they make a good team.

Q: What's the story with the Bird Watcher? Was he inspired by Popeye?

A: No, He's inspired by all those people who dedicates their entire life to something. Like all those incredibly passionate nature show hosts. The resemblance to Popeye is purely by accident. Oh BTW his name is Herbert.

Q: Are there going to be any more characters introduced into Duckie's world?

A: Indeed. Each strip with a new character is like a screen test. Expect more regulars soon.

Q: Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha! Duckie is so funny how come he isn't in my local newspaper/magazine?

A: Duckie hasn't been sent as a submission to any of the big syndicate yet. If you want Duckie in your newspaper/magazine, send the editor a link to this Duckie site and tell him why you dig it so much. And then they can contact me if they are interested in running my strip.

Q: I want a Duckie mug/T-shirt/figure/Plush toy/toilet seat cover etc.... Where can I get one?

A: Nowhere just yet, but keep checking back here and I'll post up the info as soon as any Duckie merchandise has been made.
