Malo e lelei, Greetings to you all from your friend and colleague Tevita Taufalele and wife Moe'ia.

It's great to be here and to be amongst good friends. This is the second time I made some contribution to the 'Link'. It is a joy for me to have that opportunity to meet some members who may find it hard due to various reasons to come to church on Sundays or other times as they were used to.
Not only church members but people from the wider community it's good to meet you through the 'link'.
I wanted to share a very short story written by William J. Bausch in his book called " World of Stories".
The story is called Diversity.
Under a cultural exchange program, Alan Abramsky and his family in Roanoke, Texas, were host to a rabbi from Russia at Christmas time. They decided to introduce him to a culinary treat that was probably not available to him in his country. So they took him to their favourite Chinese restaurant. Throughout the meal, the rabbi spoke excitedly about the wonders of North America in comparison to the bleak conditions in his homeland. When they had finished eating, the waiter brought the check and presented each of them with a small brass Christmas tree ornament as a seasonal gift.
They all laughed when Abramsky's father pointed out that the ornaments were stamped "Made in India." But the laughter subsided when they saw the rabbi was quietly crying. Concerned, Abramsky's father asked the rabbi if he was offended because he was given a gift for a Christian holiday. He smiled, shook his head, and said, " Nyet. I was shedding tears of joy to be in a wonderful country which a Buddhist gives a Jew a Christmas gift made by a Hindu!

I believe we here in New Zealand is enjoying something unique, something that many countries are not experiencing. I am talking about the richness and the abundance of gifts, talents, cultures and experiences that overflows in every aspects of the life our country, churches, society and community. This is an exciting time for me and my family, to be able to do ministry in a place where we never ever thought of in the past.
I am mindful of how different people have different views and different understandings of 'diversity'. And it will be a very interesting dialogue if some people are preparing to engage in any form of conversation unpacking the topic. To kick off any further conversation in this topic, I wanted to mention 'variety' as one definition of diversity for us look at and may be reflect on. How this variety / varieties helped
( different) shaped our community, our country and even our churches .
There are different ethnic groups, with different and unique cultures and customs that are amongst our midsts. We were witnessing something special some few weeks ago , this 'Multicultural Bite,' the different ethnic groups showcased to us here in Ashburton.
I was there, witnessing this cultural diversity, and it was a joy to see that happens.
We are pushing the boundaries of our understanding and acceptance into a new level. As we are people of God in a beautiful country of Aotearoa New Zealand, may that grace and gifts of diversity continue to enriches us all in every aspects of our lives.

Malo 'aupito; Thank you all.
