Maid Marian Maid Marian has rather murky origins. Some versions have it that she was the daughter of a noble, some that she was the daughter of a peasant. Some say she fled to the greenwood and fell in love with Robin, others say she was the childhood sweetheart of Robin before he became an outlaw and she then followed him to the greenwood. One version even says that she had no romantic connection to Robin Hood at all; that she was his sister and was in fact in love with another, obscure, member of the Merry Men, Sir Allen-a-Dale. It is almost undisputed, however, that Maid (or Lady) Marian was in love with Robin and several other, less desirable, characters coveted her, including the Sherrif of Nottingham and Guy of Gisborne. Marian's looks differ as much as her origins, with her being described as anything from raven-haired to red-haired. She is, however, always beautiful, and always skilled with weapons. The major adventure in which Marian plays a pivotal role is when she is rescued from one castle or another to save her from an undesired marriage to a mean and powerful noble.
