     William McGregor was born on 13 Mar 1830 at Dunfermline, FIF, SCT.1
     William McGregor married Mary Anderson, daughter of Robert Nicol, on 27 Oct 1868 in Grey Cty, ONT, CAN, William aged 38 Mary 46. Ancestry adds: both Mary & William were b. Scotland and resident Galt. Mary the d/o Robert Nicol and Margaret Geddes, William s/o Duncan McGregor and Margaret Henderson. NB There's also an index entry for a 23 Dec 1868 marriage for the same couple, same details other than giving Mary's parents as Robert Nicol and Ellen Beattie.2,3
     William McGregor was assumed to have died on 22 Sep 1901 reg. Bamore, Waterloo, ONT, CAN, cert shows a 72 yr old blacksmith died 22 Sep 1901 Bamore, Waterloo, ONT and although there aren't any parents or identifiable family on the certificate, he is the right age, occupation and county to be this William.4
     William McGregor appeared on the census of 1841 at Braes of Lassodie, Beath, FIF, SCT, in the household of Duncan McGregor.5,6
     The census of 1851 showed William and Archibald and their sisters Janet, Mary, Helen and Kitty in the household of their parents Duncan and Margaret McGregor at Bowershall, Dunfermline, FIF, SCT, enumerated as McGREGOR: Duncan 46 laborer b Dollar, Kinross; wife Margaret 42 b Bridge of Allan, STI; Children: William 27 (sic), blacksmith; Janet 13 scholar; Mary 9 scholar; Helen 7 scholar; Kitty 4; Archibald 1, all b Dunfermline FIF.7
     William McGregor appeared on the census of 1871 in Galt, Waterloo Sth, ONT, CAN, enumerated as McGREGOR: William 40, head, blacksmith, b Sct (Also in Galt is a John McGregorR b SCT, aged 45, labourer).8
     The census of 1881 showed William with his wife Mary Galt, Waterloo Sth, ONT, household enumerated as McGREGOR: William 50, blacksmith; Mary 59, both b Scotland; Mary Jane 26 b ONT; GEDDES: Maggie 3 b ONT. All Scottish and Presby.9
     William McGregor appeared on the census of 31 Mar 1901 Galt, Waterloo Sth, ONT, with Mary McGregor, enumerated as McGREGOR: William 71 blacksmith b 13 Mar 1829; wife Mary 80 b 20 Nov 1820, both b Scotland.10
