SACRAMENTAL CONSULTATION

A strong community comprises strong individuals. The sacramental consultation is a gathering of strength for the individual. It matters not whether a person is in crisis or at peace, for the consultation is a meeting with the very essence of oneself - the inner divine oriented substance of being.

In the meeting, sustained by the love that is Christ, we can take a step in healing our own inner separation. The presence of a priest enables an ear apart from our own to share our presence, - whether it be in silence or in words. The priest then speaks the words of love that express the beating heart of this sacrament.

Often an individual will seek out a priest to talk over some difficult or troubling situation. Such a conversation can, when appropriate, lead to receiving the sacramental consultation.

Any significant point in destiny can be gently commemorated by requesting and receiving this 'sacrament for the individual'. A marriage or engagement, the birth of a child, a death, a major (or minor) turning point - there are many such moments in a lifetime which can be recognised and integrated through the sacramental consultation.

Perhaps most important of all ... we cannot remain isolated as individuals even though our modern tendency is to feel ourselves separate from the world and each other. We find the true depth of our being through our interaction with others in community. The sacramental consultation can be a doorway into community - especially into communion with Christ in a community of Christians. Thus in preparation for our deepest participation in the Act of Consecration of Man we can do no better than receive the sacramental consultation..
