About Ekimeus
Aerial shot of property View of the Bay of Islands from the top of the township Welcome to our home, the home of Michael and Susan Tarr, and our LaPerm cats. As well as breeding LaPerms we run a boarding kennel and cattery so we’re never short of fur to pat. We’re also home to an assortment of house cats, our favourite black labrador, two white geese, four white muscovy ducks, wild ducks, navy pukekos, turkeys, eels, possums, rabbits and mice. We’re blessed to live in one of the most beautiful and temperate places in the far north of New Zealand where the climate is subtropical. How did we get into breeding LaPerms? Well, that was mainly Susan’s idea. She’d had enough of the hospitality industry and I’d had enough of retail and computers so we put our heads together. What gives affection and warmth 24 hours of the day, doesn’t have bad hair days or menopaus, isn’t worried about their weight, and loves you regardless of all of yours? We came up with - LaPerm cats. Because we run our kennels from home we’re here 24/7 and that constant helps produce very affectionate, well-rounded pets. Although I wouldn’t have pegged us as country folk we’re certainly 'to the manner' born. Not only do we make our own cheese, yoghurt, jams and pickles we have a wonderful assortment of fruit trees and veges just crawling all over the property, waiting to be picked. Because we have 2 1/2 acres with a small lake and stream they’re free to do this.
