How to Make Flock
![]()
Here's a trick I've been using for a couple of years.
Step 1
Go buy yourself a second hand blender. (Your Mom/Wife/Girl friend will not be
pleased with a green blender)
Step 2
Track down a supply of firm foam rubber (The firm stuff is best as it chops easier)
Step 3
Pick up a bunch of tubes of green and brown students acrylic paint. (I use
Chromacryl, available both in NZ and Oz)
Step 4
Rip up the foam into 3 inch squares then squeeze the paint through the foam
pieces. This gets messy but the acrylic washes off your hands really easy. I mix
two or three colours into one piece of foam as it makes a wonderfully natural
blend of colours.
Step 5
Dry thoroughly in the sun or on top of a cloth on a oil column heater or
radiator
Step 6
Chop the foam up into 2-3cm cubes and check for any areas of foam which don't
have paint on them. Chop out any uncoloured bits as they will spoil your Flock.
Step 7
Throw all your foam bits into the blender and chop it till its as fine as you
need.
There you have it, better foam flock than you can buy from the professionals.
