Tatev [Armenia, 2004]
Perched on the edge of a precipitous canyon in southern Armenia,
parts of Tatev Monastery date back as far as the 9th century. Getting
there is half the fun - a battered minibus runs only a few times a week,
and takes well over an hour to cover the 25km from the town of Goris.
Tatev's antiquity is a reminder that Armenia is the world's oldest Christian
nation. It converted in 301 AD, decades before the Roman Empire.
