Alaverdi [Armenia, 2004] In part of the world where hotel bathrooms often leave much to be desired, Hotel Debed, near the mining town of Alaverdi, plunges to new depths. Many doors and windows in the ex-Soviet high-rise are broken, the plumbing hasn't worked for years (water for washing and flushing is carried up the stairs in bottles) and the manager is distinctly dodgy.
