Are You Receiving Your Monthly Newsletter from Joe Kaufmann?

All SITE O Members should receive a monthly e-mail newsletter from Joe Kaufmann - our Founder and International Director - (unless you have specifically asked not to):

If, for some reason, you are not receiving your newsletters - please advise Joe by e-mail at: joek05@sbcglobal.net  and re-confirm your current e-mail address.

Joe will check and confirm that your details are correctly entered on the newsletter mailing list.

If Joe finds that the details he currently has for you are correct, but you are still not receiving your newsletters - you may have a problem with spam filters (either those on your computer or those of your ISP or Web Mail service). If you don't get a reply to your e-mail to Joe, you should also check the "blocked / junk sender's" list on your e-mail programme - to make sure you haven't accidentally barred all e-mail from him!

If you reside in Australia, New Zealand or the South Pacific and it turns out that you are not receiving your newsletters because your e-mail address has changed, - could you please cc. or forward your e-mail to Joe to me at: ajscadden@paradise.net.nz - to ensure that the Regional Membership records are also updated. (I know that some of the e-mail addresses that we currently have on the Regional Members Page no longer work. They have either changed, - or are now otherwise defunct.)

Please remember: "We are Internet based - and we don't keep physical address records for you. If your e-mail address changes - and you don't tell us, then we have no way of keeping in contact with you!"

Thanks,

Problem for Telstra Clear (NZ) Ltd. Customers e-mailing Joe Kaufmann now Resolved:

It appears that the very annoying problem that has long existed for Telstra Clear (NZ) Ltd. customers attempting to e-mail Joe Kaufmann, via Paradise.net or Clear.net POP3 e-mail accounts - has now been fixed:

I don't know when the "fix" was put in place, but I have thoroughly tested my Paradise POP3 account with Joe, over the past few days - and all now appears to be working as it should be. SBCGlobal.net no longer seems to have a problem accepting mail from Telstra Clear's servers. Hopefully, the "fix" will be permanent - this time!

Dennis Doeve is Back!

I am very relieved to be able to advise that Dennis Doeve has now been located:

It turns out he has been occupied with business matters for months, and he has been "off-line" for the duration. He also has a new e-mail address, and Members who correspond with him should update their address books accordingly:

His new address is: dennis@doeve.net

His Web Sites (which had to be taken down due to business changes) will also be returning in the next few weeks, - and I will post links as soon as they are "up and running".

Requests for "Heavy Metal" at Christmas!

I have recently been contacted by two Restoration Societies that are seeking some rather heavy ordnance for their projects:

Fort Queenscliff (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) is looking for a 6 inch Mk.VII barrel (or complete assembly) - to complete their display.

If you have any information on the possible location of such an item, - please contact Bob Marmion (Fort Historian, Fort Queenscliff) at: victorianvolunteers@hotmail.com

Bob, (who is also a Member of SITE O) - would be delighted to hear from you!

Also:

The Wrights Hill Fortress Restoration Society (Inc.) (Wellington, New Zealand) is seeking a 9.2 inch Mk. XV Gun on a Mk. IX Mount. If you happen to have one in the bottom of your garden (or know somebody who has) - please contact Alistair Scadden at: ajscadden@paradise.net.nz

The Society would also appreciate information on the location of any other equipment relating to this type of gun - and the fortifications in which they were emplaced. Of particular interest would be information relating to ammunition hoists, pump chamber components, magazine equipment, generator and other electrical items, plotting room equipment - or Ruston Hornsby 6 and 4 cylinder engine parts.

Plans, manuals, photographs etc... and "inert" 9.2" ammunition - are also keenly sought after.

Worser Bay Controlled Mining Station, Wellington, New Zealand:

I am currently doing some research into the above facility:

I would greatly appreciate any assistance readers may be able to give with information, historic photos, anecdotes etc... Do you by any chance know of anybody who was stationed there? All contributions gratefully accepted.

(Thanks, Peter Cooke, for the tips you gave me on possible surviving documents the other day. Thanks also to Michael Biggs - for the great "font of information" that you uncovered for me in the Wellington City Archives! Gordon Bowers [ex. Worser Bay Yacht Club Member] - is also thanked for his anecdotal recollections. Yes, - he was there on "Detonation Day" - when the Minefield was destroyed!)
