"Exercised by a number of Central Asian tribes, throat singing is a peculiar vocal art with three basic vocalizing methods and at least four submethods that allow a singer to simultaneously sing with two, indeed, sometimes even with four voices."
A miraculous method of singing - On Throat Singing of South Siberia
Sami Jannsen
Welcome to throatsinging.co.nz - the premier site for all things tuvan and musical, specialising in the throatsinging music of the Central Asian areas - Mongolia, Tuva, and Southern Siberia.
The website is a development of our specialist world music retail business in Wellington New Zealand, and is a way to provide our audience and customers with much to fuel their interest and enthusiasm in this unique and beautiful form of music. We now have our Music Catalogue online (and so available internationally), and with the site want to provide the kind of information that our customers and music enthusiast friends have been asking us about for the last couple of years.
In the Musicians section we have the rundown on the most popular (and well-recorded) Tuvan and Mongolian bands to date. From this you can also link to the Music Catalogue to find out details of their latest recordings (and we provide you with secure online ordering). In the Features section we will be having monthly features, articles and interviews on the music of Tuva and the surrounding regions - this month, the feature article is an interview with the Mongolian throat-singing band Altai-Hangai, sourced from the American Asia Society. In the Events section, we have a calendar with the latest tour dates information we have available, giving you an idea of who is touring where.
We will also be providing you with News from the world of throatsinging - current affairs in Mongolia and Tuva, news of the musicians, and the development of throat-singing around the world. And, in the How-To section we have a few different descriptions about how to throat-sing - so you can try this in the privacy of your own home!
We would love to hear from you, so if you have any questions about the music, the bands, or the CD collection, then pop into our Feedback section and send us line. Simple!
Well then come on in, the music is fine!!
