David Cassidy LIVE in Brighton

The total lunar eclipse was totally eclipsed by David’s performance! Despite being an arena-type venue, which he had previously said he wished to avoid, the evening felt intimate and cosy.

The fact that David occasionally forgot lyrics, especially to "I Am A Clown," or was put-off by over-enthusiastic audience members, and had to have two stabs at "Blackbird," added-to, rather than detracted from, the experience. We felt like we were just hanging-out and relaxing with a friend.

The impromptu version of "You Make Me Feel So Young" was wonderful! David assured that, in 34 years, he had never sung that before and his band had never played it. It sounded good to us!

We really enjoyed the segment in the second half of the show when, having sung, "Ain’t No Sunshine," David sat on his chrome stool (which he thought we would refer to as a "chair"; but we wouldn’t! ) playing acoustic guitar and singing, unaccompanied by the band, "You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away," a beautiful rendition of "Blackbird," "Ricky’s Tune" and a very slow version of "I Think I Love You." Even if he thinks he can't play well and cannot always remember the "songs he grew up with" we were spellbound.

If I have any minor criticism, it is that David spent very little time towards the side of the stage where I was. My bad luck, I suppose!

Is it a sign of age (Surely not ?!) that David only sang one song for an encore? Still, at least I have Thursday, at Hammersmith, to look forward to ...
