Rathorgan cronin family
This family appears to start with James CRONIN (1814 - Jan 25, 1894) In 1853 he is listed as the holder of 156 acres of land at Rathorgan (parish of Dungourney) but does not appear in the Tithe Applotment books of 1823. It is likely James was related to the Clonmult Cronin family but the exact relationship has not been dertemined. James married Ellen DESMOND in July 1852 and had at least two children. He died in January 1895 leaving an estate of £838.5s.6d. which was proved at Cork by his widow.
Denis CRONIN succeeded to Rathorgan and was in turn succeeded by his son James but when this James died in 1976 Rathorgan passed out of the Cronin name.
A daughter of James and Ellen CRONIN was Johannah, she married William KELLEHER of Clonmult by whom she had four sons and three daughters. Her third son, James (1878 - 10 Jan, 1943) married firstly Sabina (Ina) CRONIN of Clonmult Sep 13, 1927. They moved to the Ballyard farm of Sabina's father, Patrick CRONIN (Patrick had moved to Ballyeightera) but Sabina died soon after. James married secondly, Bridget McCARTHY, in 1935. Their daughter, Joan, sold the Ballyard farm to Patrick CRONIN (grandson of Patrick CRONIN of Ballyeightera) in 1973.
