An Index of the surnames of 'Heads of Families' in the 1901 Census of Youghal and surrounding area, county Cork, taken on Sunday 31st of March 1901.

Currently the index includes most of Youghal, Ardagh, Clonpriest, Killeagh, KIlmacdonogh, and the Kilcronat part of Mogeely

There are 2,051 families on the database.

The census comprises three forms:

A (Return of members of the household)
B1 (Return of building in the townland or street)
B2 (Return of outbuildings)

Form 'B1' was searched first, it lists the 'head of household' name against each building. If this name was clear and legible no further check was carried out. If the handwriting was difficult or the name unusual the 'A' form was checked and the spelling there was used in preference to 'B1'.

In some cases there was some obvious spelling variation between the two forms, in particular the O or Mac prefix was used inconsistantly. In cases where names such as Sullivan/O'Sullvan are being searched it is advisable to check both versions.

While every care has been taken in preparing this index handwriting difficulities will lead to errors. If any typos or errors in the database are found, please let me know by clicking the feedback link above.
