FANTAIL MODEL 13
| The Fantail features in a Maori myth. It is in the final story of Maui,
who is a great hero, but also a trickster. He wanted himself and humankind to
live forever. So his plan is to kill the Goddess of death, Hine nui te Po. She
is the daughter of Tane, the God of the forest who separated Papa and Rangi,
Mother Earth and father Sky. That story is the story of Hine
titama. To continue, Maui 's plan was to enter inside the giantess and work
his way up to rent her heart from inside with his sacred weapon. His companions
were some of the birds of the forest. He asked them not to laugh until he
reappeared from her mouth. But his friends found Maui's antics to enter so
comical that at last tiwaiwaka the fantail could not contain himself any longer.
He laughed out loud and woke Hine nui with a start. And that was the end of
Maui. And immortality (of the flesh) for mankind. |

This model adds another few notches
towards realism by two further options:
 | carving feathers in the tail both sides |
 | painting the sculpture in an approximate way.
Because hours could be spent to get it better with a corresponding
increase in price. |
