A little about Dargaville where the Kaipara Equine Driving Club is Based.
Dargaville is a small town in
Northland with a population of approximately 4,000 in the town and a further
5,000 in the surrounding districts. It was founded by Joseph McMullen Dargaville
in 1872 as a private town, close to the thriving timber milling and ship
building areas of Aratapu and Te Kopuru.
Situated beside the Northern Wairoa River, Dargaville is close to West Coast
surf beaches and within easy driving distance from Trounson Kauri Park and the
Waipoua Forest as well as the beautiful Kai-Iwi Lakes. Whangarei is 45 minutes
away by road. As 90% of the country’s kumara is grown in the surrounding areas,
Dargaville is known as “The Kumara Capital of New Zealand”.
About the KEDC (Kaipara Equine Driving Club)
The Club was formed October 2008 by Nita Freeman and Jo-Ann Fife. The Aim was to involve horse owners to bring along their horses that were sitting in a paddock and needed some sort of work to relieve the boredom, whether it be leading, inhand, long rein driving or carting, for all shape and size horses working together. Horses where the horse riders have left home and Mum and Dad are left with the horses/ponies. People starting out for the first time with their little Mini Horses. Ultimately to get the horses/ponies into Carts and having fun. Sharing knowledge and having a Professional Instructor from time to time, to help with those that wish to go further in their chosen discipline.
Do you have any interesting tales or happenings that I could use in this web-site and that would be of interest to our Members please forward them to me Nita Freeman frahill@paradise.net.nz
