Elizabeth comments that the design revolves around colour themes for the costumes in each act.  Yellow for Act I for the heat of the day, orange in Act II to evoke fire light, blue in Act II for the cold of the mountains and then red for Act IV with the bullfight and Carmens murder.

Elizabeth comments that her aim in the design was to create a romantic world with a salute to the 1790's and a bow to the Pirates of the Caribean.
