, who had migrated to Victoria in 1855, purchased Crown Allotment 2 sections
1 containing 190 acres in Bagshot County of Bengigo from Denis Toohey in Jaan
1859 for 400 pounds Farming was carried out by the brothers there until
Thomas sold his half share to Abraham on 29th Feb 1868 after being accepted
as a schoolteacher on 1st Jan 1868, Abraham paid 150 pounds for Thomas' half

Entry of death 10 Dec 1892 at Clifton Hill registration district, Melbourne,
presumably at brother Edmond's, as place of death is recorded as Queens Pde
Nth Fitzroy. Edmund was the informant for details and was same address as
recorded for Thomas. From some other research of Wiseman's trade directory
for Victoria, Edmund's grocers shop was at 292-294 Queens Pde Nth Fitzroy.
Probably lived above the shop- most shops in this area are two storey
terrace Victorian buildings.

Thomas' cause of death was cirrhosis of the liver and bronchial catarrh.
Sounds like a drinker and smoker. His occupation is noted as state school
teacher. At time of death he had been in the colonies 36 years. Thomas
buried at Boorandara cemetery in Kew- a rather up market area.

Abraham was the 3rd son of Abraham Manning & Catherine Saul Manning. He migrated to Australia ( unassisted) in the wooden sailing ship Merlin of 937 tons built 1851 which left Liverpool 24 Sept 1853 and arrived in Melbourne 17 Jan 1854. His Occupation was stated as Farmer and he was booked to Sydney. But due to to the discovery of gold at Sandhurst (Bendigo) he disimbarked in Melbourne and made his way to the goldfields on foot and was one of the pioneer digger in that field. For a while he worked on at Maryborough and then at Eaglehawk where he carried on allavial digging with succes.

Abraham lived in a tent on the property no doubt run cattle or horses.
On 9 Aug 1870 married Elizabeth Ann Horseman at White Hillls
Another brother Edmond and only living sister Elizabeth were witness to the Marriage. The married couple carried on farmimg at Bagshot living in a tent and pumping water from Reedy Creek which run though the property.
Their first child Henry Horsman Manning was born 20th July 1871 Abraham would have been aged 36.
On 29th April 1873 Abraham purchased from the Crown Allotment 249 Section E Parish of Sandhurst at Bendigo Frontingon to Bridge Stret (now no. 63) and subsequently became a deasler there.The Bagshot property being left idle. Meantime on 10 July 1872 Abraham younger brother Edmond had purchased Crown Allotment 4 Section 102c fronting on McCraeStreet Between Arnold & Baxter Streets and oprerated a Haay & Corn store there. The previous occupier had been Edward Manning. Abraham & Edmond entered into partership in 1874.
In 1876 Edmond took a trip home and on 20 Sept of that year married Emily Josehine Manning in Dublin and the couple came to Bengio early 1877.
In 1878 the Partership was dissolved , Abraham purchased Edmond's halfshares. Edmond in that year commensed business as a grocer and wine & sprit mercant in a rented shop in Haidelberg Road North Fitzroy , Later became Queens Paarade.
In 1881 Abraham purchased Crown Allotment 3 Section 102c next to to his store and on which was a smithy. Then in 1891 he purchased a section closer to Baxter Street and by 1893 had a new house built " Corballis" later 270 McCrae Street. Abraham retired in 1900 and subsequently deid of a heart affection at Corballis on 24 January 1905 aged 69 years and buried in the White Hills Cemetery, Church of England Section. Abraham & Eliizabeth had 13 Children
Bagshot property sold for 997 pounds ten shillings.

Manning- On the 24th of January (suddenly) at his residence "Westholme" 270 McCrae St Bendigo. Abraham, the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. Manning, aged 70 years.The house Corballis was passed to his widow who lived there until 1911 when Elizabeth Anne Manning moved to 373 Danks Streets , Middle Park Melbourne .
and lived there for some years until purchasing a property at 3 Glenferrie Street Malvern where she passed away on 28 July 1929 and is buried in the St Kilda Cemetery, other denominations section grave D74a near Alma Street gate.

On the 21st August 1907 David Ritchie, of Oamaru age 34, Coalman, widower, at Residence of Mr Thomas Moloney at Reidston, Married Elizabeth Florence Manning age 26 Domestics servant, Spinster, born Kakanui, Present Residence, Reidston, Usual Oamaru. The witnesses were Alexander Cook Brown a train examiner. and Elizabeth O'Connor Domestics of Oamaru. The officiating minister was Patrick Jas O'Neil.
Reidston is on Kakanui river, 8 miles south of Oamaru and half a mile from Teshemakers. Thomas Moloney was a family friend of the Mannings. Eileen Nora was born 30th May 1908 at 87 Oxford Street Dunedin. Elizabeth was shown on birth registry as aged 28 and David 37. being born in Perthshire
occupation blacksmith. Violet was born in 1914 and died 3rd Dec 1915 of bronchi pneumonia aged 18 mths. Victor Charles was born at 244 Melbourne St Dunedin 16th July 1917

Mother, Grace Laing Powerloom Weaver. David married Florence Thomas Daughter of William Thomas, Engine driver, and Clara Ann nee Lewis of North East Valley Dunedin in Dunedin on 2nd April 1896. Their first child Florence Mable was born 23rd Feb 1897 in Maclaggan St Dunedin The register shows that David was a Compositor aged 24 born in Edinburgh and David Charles was born 19/6/02 in South Dunedin The informant when he was registered was his

Florence died 19/6/1902 of Parturition Embolism one hour after giving birth to Charles. Buried in Southern Cemetery Dunedin, officating Minister, Rob Mackie Presbyterian Minister. David Remarried. 1917 Register shows David as a Furnaceman age 45. The 1919 Roll show David Jur & Elizabeth Florence at 110 Melborne St. Striker David died Monday 2nd May 1927 aged 56. His occupation at the time was Blacksmith's Striker. His Death Register entry shows that the Coroner's Verdict suicide while in a depressed
state of mind. Under when and where died the register-book shows (1) on or about May 2nd (2) 61 Cutten St South Dunedin from 9 Lorne St South Dunedin. Shows his father's Occupation as Gas Stoker.
It is also shown that he had been in NZ for 50 years. He was buried in the Southern Cemetery Plan 2320 Block 143g Plot 15.on 8th May 1927 Also buried in this plot is Violet and Elizabeth on 30th June 1965.
