William ( a very popular name among the Manning of Rathdrum), was born 21 Nov 1779 son of George and Katherine Wills of Ballyteague. I would imagine that this is the same George Manning that is showed on the 1766 Parish list living in the townland of Ballytiegue. And the same George that had his house set on fire in the1798.
In "The Rebellion in Wicklow in 1798 " Late rebellion to 'Brigand war' page 227-338. it stated
" County Coroner George Manning was burned out of his Ballyteigue home,( because he and several of his sons and nephews were yeoman,) The Mannings were held responsible for burning of Bryan Devlin's home at Croneybeg, Devlin held his farm from Mr George Manning of Ballyteigue."

The Mannings are said to be descended from the ancient & noble family which took it's name from Maning, a town in Saxony, whence they came to England before the Conquest (1066).
Once arrived in England settled in the south of England They were at Culmstock, Yarcombe, St Saviours, Dartmouth, and George, all of Devon, Winchester in Hampshire, Essex, Suffolk, and Abt 1235at Bettreds Castle Kent and moved up at Norwich and Norhampshire
There was no Mannings in Co. Wicklow's Hearth Money Roll 1659 The Manning family were in Rathdrum by at least 1707. The Mannings were gentry, capitalists, making their money through cattle farming.

Samuel Manning / who died June the 30 1825
George Manning was born in 1778 at Avon Hall.
He married but I do not -as yet - have his wife's name, etc. He and his wife
and some of their children left Ireland for Canada in 1819. They settled
first at Prescott, then in Port Hope and finally in Beavers Meadows all in
Ontario. He died in 1829 and was buried in the churchyard of St. Mark's
Anglican Church in Port Hope. His wife is also buried there.
This tomb / is erected by a lamenting widow / in memory of her loving husband / Thomas Manning / late of Corballis Castle / who departed this life the 5th day of June 1841 / aged 75 years / Mary Manning / widow of the above Thomas Manning / who died 8th of June 1856 / aged 81 years.
In "The Rebellion in Wicklow in 1798 states "Mr Thomas Manning of Rathdrum did all he could to save him" ( Michael Byrne)
