secret garden
Below are two
pics of our secret garden taken when we first made it in may 1999 and the
second two were taken in mid August 2000 and the last two in mid september
2000. We call it our secret garden because it only has one way in and out
and if you did not know it was there you would probably not find it.
As our vege garden
was to far away from the house we decided to turn the secret garden into
our vege garden which is a real shame as it was a lovely garden but at
times you have to be a bit practical so out came all the flowers and in
went fresh soil with heaps of compost.
While digging
the old soil out we found underneath an old concrete path so that also
had to be pulled up.below are two pics of the finished garden with our
first crop of silverbeet already coming
away.
We planted a crop
of broad beans in late Autumn and had a great strike of seed and we will
harvest a good crop.Below is a pic of them and also one of our pumpkin
patch down in our orchard. We firstly
laid down cardboard
then wet it with a hose then added a thick layer of horse manure then a
layer of grass clippings and finally a layer of fresh untreated sawdust.this
shuold give the pumpkins a good start.
Also a friend
gave us some gooseberry plants to try so we made a place for them also
in the orchard so have added a pic of these and also sweetpeas on a fence
in our vege garden.
The garden the
gooseberrys were in was nice and neatly dug but as soon as i turned my
back the chooks discovered the fresh ground and did some of there own landscaping.
We have also made
another vege garden out in the paddock to grow our main crop of potatoes
and aslo corn and house our four bin compost system as we plan on making
as much compost as we can.
Below are two
pics of the new area.
