where we are
We are situated
on the east coast of the south island of new zealand
about 160km's
south of christchurch city on the outskirts of timaru city.we have 1.3
hectares of land divided into about half garden and half pasture.
Our home was
built in the early 1900's and has had major renovations but still retains
most of the original features.
Our climate
could be described as mild with about 500mm of rain,50 frosts per year
going as low as -5c and an average of 1800 hours of sunshine per year.
We have a large
tunnel house that we use to grow most of our vegetables and also plants
for ourselves and any surplus plants we take to market days and sell to
help with the cost of maintaining our property. As well as the tunnel house
we have a glass house which we use only for propagation of perennials.
There also was a
large growing on house here from when this was a nursery.we have turned
it into a fernery and planted many types of tree ferns and ground ferns
and are now propagating hostas to add to it.Here are a couple of photos
to show what it looks like.
