Late April 2004

Hello,

I've had the best news yet! Michael and I are engaged, wahoo!! Michael proposed to me on the evening of April the 14th. I had just cooked him a nice dinner (Greek style lamb) which we had with a bottle of red wine. Then Michael started acting suspiciously. Anyway, we were snuggling and chatting in the lounge when Michael went down on one knee and popped the question. I said yes straight away and Michael put the ring on my finger. Yay!

It has been great telling everyone our good news. The girls at nzweddingplanner were pretty excited. Other friends have all been lovely about it. My parents didn't seem in the least bit suprised, I guess they knew it was going to happen, just not when. Michaels parents are going to find out this weekend when they are visiting Wellington for their Silver Wedding anniversary. I'm pretty sure they'll be happy about it.

We've been getting into the planning of our engagement party and our wedding. We've booked DJ Richard for both our do's. Michael is contacting Richard Prebble for permission to use the grand hall for our reception venue, and then contacting the parliament functions person. I've been in touch with the Eurest caterers again. Once we have the go-ahead for the reception venue we can start booking things properly because we'll know our date. We're tentatively looking at 14th May 2005.

We've made an appointment to see Andrew Keedwell, a photographer based in Upper Hutt. He seems more reasonably priced than others, but we have to check the quality of his work and also what his personality is like. Other options might be Emotif or David Steadman.

Also, we've talked more about a church. Michael said that perhaps a presbyterian church would be a good option seeing as we are attending a presbyterian church in Lower Hutt. We visited Saint Johns last week and it does look nice. We will arrange a meeting with the Minister shortly.

I've written a letter to the caterers at the Hutt Golf CLub to try and confirm stuff and answer a few questions.. I'm the kind of person who likes things in writing. Plans for the party are continuing nicely. Snaiet should be able to do a La Ronde session, which will be fun. I'm trying a figure out a polite way of inviting lots of dancer-friends, but it could be a bit curly...

We've both finished making our wedding bands. The course was good and it was a fun way to personalise things. I've been finding it interesting getting used to wearing a pointy engagement ring. Sometimes I worry that I'll hurt it gradually just by catching it on the bed sheets and stuff... I've had lots of lovely compliments though about how nice it is and how it suits me.

The wedding gown planning has started. I've been talking to Mum about it. There are about 20 different bits and pieces that need to be bought in order to make it, and that is on top of any kind of dummy-run that we might do. It'll look lovely though, and I am really pleased that it'll be a sentimental special gown, and not just off the rack. She is a clever sewer too!

For bridal apparell I've also been thinking that perhaps I could make a garter (using McLachlan tartan - something blue), and maybe the veil as well. It gives things a special and less commercial touch.

Phew - that is a lot of news!!!

I'll look forward to seeing you all at the Engagement Party!!

Love,

Chaucey
