Brian M Harmer - Writing and Photography
Writing

Writing gives me a great deal of pleasure. My hope is to use language eidetically, as a stimulus through which the reader may share as authentically as possible, my experiences of landscapes and other events. Most of my writing has taken the form of travel diaries, posted at the front of the (more or less) weekly editions of WYSIWYG NEWS. This is generously archived by my good friends at Onesquared.net on the http://www.wysiwygnews.com

Photography

Photography is a gentle pleasure. Regrettably, I tend to get carried away by the technology, and have, at various stages of my life owned Pentax, Canon, Nikon and Hasselblad cameras. Of course, as fellow members of various photographs rightly insisted, the best images are taken by the eye behind the camera, and not by the camera itself. Nevertheless, my present camera is a digital Fuji S602Z, and this serves me well, though one day I would love a full-blooded digital SLR.

Travel lives in the memory, but photographs may help to keep them there. Except when you lose an unsaved hard-disk.
L to R: Puffing Billy heads into the Dandenongs to the East of Melbourne. Grand scenery such as the Wilmott Pass loses none of its grandeur in the rain.

Catching nature in the wild usually requires more patience than I have. However, the Katiki Pt Penguin Sanctuary, near Moeraki gives easy access to the delightful yellow-eyed penguin (Hoiho), who display remarkably human characteristics with in-groups and outsiders.
