Building
options
Plans or a kit?
You currently have two building options to
consider:
Plans built from scratch or Avipro kit?
Most of the Bearhawks currently flying are plans built versions.
From
watching the forums and scanning websites it seems the Bearhawk appeals
to
the low budget do everything yourself crowd. No harm in that and
it
must be very pleasing to Bob Barrows himself that so many of the
aircraft
are being built this way. In a lot of ways the Bearhawk is a
project
that assembles so many great skills. You can do as much or as
little
as you like. You can use engineers where you don't have the
ability
or confidence to complete the work or do everything yourself including
building
all the tools you will need.
If you are in a hurry or building the aircraft completely from scratch
doesn't
appeal Avipro are
builders
of fine kits. There's plenty of options so you can get as little
done
or a fast build kit that has most of the basic construction
complete.
I'll let you check out the details but the workmanship and value
for
money of these kits is unequalled. Even if you elect to build
from
scratch then find you can't make the progress you would like ordering a
fuselage
or wings from Avipro may just save the day and allow you to complete
your
dream. Still there are some things you will need to make even
with
a kit.
Regardless of the option you choose you need the plans.
Bearhawk 4 place plans - $US 275 (includes the cargo door
plans now)
Tailwheel plans
- $US 25
International postage - $US 15
Total
- $US 315.00
These can be ordered from Bob Barrows at the following address.

Bob is not on the internet so snail mail or the telephone are your best
bets
here. If you are outside of the US or Canada getting payment
through
can be a real pain and I'm still trying to find a decent solution at a
reasonable
cost. Western Union is everywhere but isn't cheap. PayPal
might
be okay and Bank drafts can be done but will cost. If anyone has
a
good suggestion thats proven let me know. US Banks and Credit
Unions
seem to charge the earth to process foreign transactions so sending a
cheque
can end up costing the recipient so much it's not acceptable.
Update: April 2005 I paid
for my plans via PayPal. It cost $US15 extra on top of the
converted amount. You must
contact Bob directly to do this though!
