Apirana Taylor (Ngati Porou) is a significant Maori poet. His publications include ‘Eyes of the Ruru’, ‘Three Shades’ and ‘Soft Leaf Falls of the Moon’. His work is included in many major New Zealand anthologies, and is published throughout Europe. Apirana won the 1994 ‘Te Ha’ award for poetry.
His poetry is studied in Secondary Schools and Tertiary Institutions throughout New Zealand. He has travelled nationally and internationally as a poet and storyteller. Apirana has twice been invited to India to read his poetry, and in 2000 he was invited to tour Europe for three months to read his work.
