Hi, my name's Anton Reinauer, I'm 37, a general silly bugger, and sarcastic bastard. I've been suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E.), for 16 years now; for me, this was mainly caused by long term stress, weakening my immune system, so I get tired very easily, and generally feel awful all the time :/     I've been slowly recovering over the years, and I have made a lot of progress in the last couple of years, by taking things easy and avoiding stress as much as possible. I seem to be recovering quite well at the moment, and hope to make a full recovery, maybe in the next 6 months :-)
Because I was too ill to do much, and as I am normally a very active person (I always used to do a lot of exercise before I got sick), I got into computers and programming, as it didn't take too much energy, and kept my brain occupied! I've been working with Amiga computers for about 10 years, and have been programming on them for about 9. They are superior computers to any other home computer on the market (even if they are quite ols now), as the operating system is very powerful, simple, stable and flexible. The programs are usually well written, small, and efficient. The overall effect, is that they use a very small amount of memory (compared to similar programs on other platforms), and use a much smaller amount of CPU power than the same tasks do on other machines! So even though the old 68k based Amigas aren't that powerful by modern standards (usually about 50Mhz) they are still usable for most tasks (including nearly all internet applications).
I first started doing some programming for a Star Trek (tm) bridge set (a full replica of the back half of the original series' bridge), made by my local Sci-Fi club for live roleplaying. We use Amiga's out the back (with the monitors showing through holes in the set, to display information, and/or give real time interaction through buttons on the consols (wired up to the mouseports)).
I'd originally done the Science Library computer (basically just a simple database of planets, ships, and miscellaneous information, to give clues to the Science officer on the story), on a Commodore64, so I redid it on the Amiga, with better graphics etc. Then I embarked on the enginneering computer- this shows the enginneering officer, how much power the engines are putting out, and where the power is being allocated (to weapons, warp engines, shields etc), and can shift it around, and power up/down the engines. The judge out the back can then damage the engines etc (if ship attacked), and the program will automatically reduce the power from engines, and allocated to weapons etc. This was a major program and took ages to do.
