Educational
Table Topics Master
The Table Topics Master – chairs the informal part of the evening.
Before the evening – organise about a dozen topics. Usually the
topics should be around the theme of the evening.
On the night – the Chairman will call
you up. Remember, the honorifics – then state “This is
the fun part of the evening – interjections are welcome –
Mr/Madam timer the timing will be 1 – 1 ¼ and 1 ½”
Ensure Toastmasters who have not had a speaking role are called upon. The
first speaker should always be one of the experienced speakers.
Visiting Toastmasters can also being picked on. At the refreshment
break – ask guests who are not Toastmasters – if they
would like to participate.
The best way to do the role is to give the topic the name – the name
and the topic. Eg “Tell us about your favourite pizza
topping” – Andrew Day. Andrew Day “Tell us your
about your favourite pizza topping”.
Be aware of who your Table Topics Evaluators are and who is evaluating the
odd and who is evaluating the evens. You may want to call upon them
to deliver a table topic.
Depending on how the meeting is going for time will dictate the number of
topics you will be able to cover.
When time is up - call up the table topics evaluators – they are
given 30 seconds per table topic. Table Topics Evaluators should
give a quick – commendation – recommendation –
commendation. Table Topics Evaluators should not regurgitate the
topic.
The Table Topics Evaluators then hand the meeting back to the Table Topics
Master. The Table Topics Master reminds the members to vote for best
Table Topics Speaker for the night. The Topics Master then hands the
meeting back to the Chairman.
