TABLE TOPICS
First Place Winner of the Table Topics contest was Ray Mason. Jan Blyde scored Second Place.

SO ALL THE BEST TO Caroline Luey and Ray Mason when they represent our club on the 20th!

SOCIAL FUNTION

Warren Frazer organized an excellent & well catered evening on the 9th of May at Go Kart East Tamaki where we were friendly welcomed as the "Pakuranga ToastMakers" which was rather hilarious. The truth was that the Toastmasters were more "Toast Burners" as we were burning (rubber & petrol) all over the track that evening.

1st prize went to Edwin Zwanenburg and Jan Blyde's charming daughter Sarah who managed to complete the 80 laps the quickest.

SOCIAL FUNTION

Warren Frazer (again.. Busy man that he is.....)
organized a lovely dinner at Rangioli Indian Restaurant on the 27th of June. A fair number of members and partners enjoyed an evening of Indian cuisine and good company....

An Exciting New Adventure

I asked one of our newest club members Evilia Kurnia what her motivation was to join Toastmasters...
here is what she wrote back:

Hi Edwin
I m not quite sure what to share so feel free to edit as you please! (note from editor: Which I didn't,... except this note between the brackets obviously...). For me, the initial reason for joining toastmaster was to be a better speaker. Not so much of a public speaker, but just to learn to entertain others since i find it is always nice to be with people who are full of stories and jokes. And after joining TM, it is good to see how everyone grows, to learn to be more confident and also, by listening to other people's speech, it gives you a chance to peek into other people's life (from the perspective of some one who has just started working, it is quite interesting to know what possible careers / life paths there are out there).
Let me know if i have answered your question. Evilia

You sure did answer the question Evilia... Isn't it fantastic to see so many guests and new member each session? Best of luck with your progress and now you've done your "Ice-breaker" we all are look- ing forward to hear and see more from you!

A Special Note

The Speechcraft Course has been running for a while now at Selwyn College, every Tuesday from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Graduation for these speechcrafters will be held at our club on 15 September so that is at next meeting.
Toastmasters Pakuranga has been running the Speechcraft Course from the 29th of July and especially Jan Blyde has put a lot of effort into this programme. Members of the public could come along for the 8 weeks and were thought from the manual. With a turn out of 19 people on the course from all sections of the community we can safely say that this has been a very successful event. We are running this in conjunction with Orakei Toastmasters and it's is a way of raising funds for Pakuranga and Orakei Toastmasters. At the end of the course we deduct the expenses and the two Toastmasters Clubs share in the proceeds. Many Toastmasters have joined a club after having done a Speechcraft Course. It gives them a good insight into what Toastmasters is all about and the benefits it provides.
Just as a matter of interest, Jan herself came into Toastmasters after having done a Speechcraft Course which was run by Pakuranga Toastmasters at the time.

A fantastic effort by Jan and the team at Speechcraft!!
