JUNE 2008 - PAKURANGA TOASTMASTERS’ NEWSLETTER
The Toastmasters’ Convention on 16-18 May in Rotorua now seems like a distant memory
when Jan, Patty, Manissha, Kelly and I attended.
The theme of “Every Step Counts” has been imbedded in our brain along
with the mantra “We Can Show You How” repeated like an
army drill sergeant. I encourage you all to attend a Toastmasters’
Convention at least once. Not only will you benefit from the
workshops, but you will also hear some very polished and inspiring
speeches.
My time as VP Public Relations is up soon which has been an enjoyable learning experience.
Edwin Zwanenburg will be stepping in and stepping up by producing
the next newsletter, with a new style and a different perspective,
which we look forward to.
Remember to get the most out of toastmasters you need to put a lot into it, whether it’s
means undertaking one of the roles, giving your speech, giving
feedback to a fellow toastmaster on a job well done, or whether it’s
just turning up on the night. Keep focussed on your goals because
“every step steps counts” and we can show you how”.
Cheers
Caroline Luey

WHY SPEAK UP? (from the book “ Is there a Speech Inside of You? ”by Don Aslett)
The businessman stopped in a pet shop during his lunch hour to browse and wound up
paying a fortune for a parrot that spoke five languages.
The shop delivered the bird to his home that afternoon.
He rushed into the house after work, eager to impress his wife with his acquisition. He asked if the bird had been delivered.
Yes, it’s here”she answered.“In the oven.”
“In the oven?”the husband roared. “Why that bird cost a fortune and knew five different languages.”
Well,”said his wife calmly, “why didn’t he speak up?”
