There will be a 5-7 minute test speech, where the speech objectives will not be known

You take notes, using any materials that you wish

Identify what type of speech it is, and what the objectives are for that type of speech
eg to inform, to entertain, to persuade, to inspire

at the end of the speech, all contestants leave the room, they have five minutes to prepare evaluation

at the end of 5 minutes, hand notes to Sergeant-at-Arms

Each Contestant evaluates the same speech, so you stay outside, until it is your turn.

As you enter room, you get your notes back to use

Describe how the speech affected you

Identify the speech type, and the objectives of that type of speech (Analysis = 40 marks)

Commend where the objectives were met, with examples

Recommend where the objectives were not met, showing how to improve ( useful = 30 marks)

Commend the speech as a whole

Summarize the main points (15 marks)

Finish with a supportive closing line, (a sympathetic and motivational style = 15 marks), that says what you are going to do now

and you only have 2-3 minutes !
